We’ve always believed in investing in technology that helps us provide better, more individual eye care — and our latest addition has just arrived. 

Meet our new ZEISS Humphrey Field Analyzer 3 – HFA 830. 

The Humphrey Field Analyzer is used to examine your field of vision in detail, helping us detect and monitor changes that can be associated with glaucoma and other eye conditions. 
It can also perform a binocular Esterman visual field test, used by the DVLA to assess whether your field of vision meets the required standard for driving.

The HFA 830 joins our growing range of ZEISS technology, including CIRRUS OCT 3D scanning, CLARUS 500 ultra-widefield retinal imaging, i.Profiler Plus and VISUFIT 1000.

FAQ - What makes our enhanced eye test different? 

A little more about the technology we use, what it shows and what you can expect from your enhanced eye test at Cliff Williams in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

What is an Enhanced Eye Test?

Answer. An Enhanced Eye Test goes beyond a standard eye examination by using advanced imaging and diagnostic technology to give us a more detailed picture of your eyes and vision. 

At Cliff Williams Opticians, we use ZEISS technology including OCT 3D retinal scanning and ultra-wide retinal imaging, helping us examine your eyes in greater detail and identify changes that may not be visible during a standard eye examination. 

How much does the Enhanced Eye Test cost?

Answer.  If you qualify for an NHS-funded eye examination, your standard eye examination is covered by the NHS and our Enhanced Eye Test costs an additional £60.

If you do not qualify for an NHS-funded eye examination, the cost of the Enhanced Eye Test starts from £120.

The Enhanced Eye Test includes advanced ZEISS imaging and measurements, including OCT 3D retinal scans and ultra-wide retinal photography, giving us a much more detailed picture of your eyes and vision.

What do the CIRRUS OCT and CLARUS 500 scans show? 

Answer.  As part of our Enhanced Eye Test, we use two advanced ZEISS imaging systems to give us different and complementary views of your eyes.

The ZEISS CIRRUS 6000 OCT produces detailed 3D scans of the structures within the eye, allowing us to examine the retina and optic nerve in much greater detail.

The ZEISS CLARUS 500 captures ultra-wide, high-resolution colour images of the retina, allowing us to see and record a much larger area at the back of the eye than with conventional retinal photography.

Used together, they give us a far more detailed picture of your eye health and provide images we can keep on record to help us identify and monitor changes over time.

What does the i.Profiler Plus and VISUFIT 1000 do?

Answer. The ZEISS i.Profiler Plus takes highly detailed measurements of your eyes, analysing how they focus and identifying even very small optical imperfections. These measurements can help us create a more precise prescription and optimise your ZEISS lenses for clearer vision, particularly in challenging conditions such as low light and night-time driving.

The ZEISS VISUFIT 1000 uses multiple cameras to create a detailed 3D image of your head and face. It allows us to take extremely precise measurements of how your chosen frames sit in front of your eyes, helping us position and personalise your spectacle lenses accurately.

Together, they help us go beyond simply finding your prescription — measuring both your eyes and how your glasses fit to provide lenses individually tailored to you .

Why do you use ZEISS technology?

Answer.  The ZEISS story began in 1846, when Carl Zeiss opened his precision mechanics and optical workshop in Jena, Germany. From those beginnings, ZEISS developed into one of the world's leading names in optics, built around precision, science and innovation.

Following Carl Zeiss's death, his business partner, physicist Ernst Abbe, established the  Carl Zeiss Foundation  in 1889. Today, the Foundation remains the sole owner of the ZEISS and SCHOTT foundation companies, helping to secure their long-term independence while promoting science, research and education.
